Blog by Robert & Matthew Johnston | October 31st, 2015

As the "baby-boomers" start to outnumber the millenials and generation Z, its is more important than ever to ensure that the needs of our aging population are taken care of.

With that in mind, Age-Friendly Barrie is a city inititative designed to improve the quality of life for Barrie residents in alignment with the World Health Organization's Network of Age-friendly cities and communities.

The program looks to identify gaps and needs and recommends action plans in 8 key areas including: Outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, communication and information and community and health services.

In 2014, the city of Barrie established a Seniors Advisory Committee with the goal of having Barrie recognized as a member of the WHO Global Network of Age-friendly cities.

The meetings are open to the public. For more information about the program and the committee click here

Let's make Barrie the perfect place to call home for all of our residents!
